Who We Are


STUART E. MAGDEFRAU (1954 - 2015) founded Magdefrau & Rathbun, the predecessor firm to Magdefrau, Renner & Ciaffaglione LLC in 1986. In addition to the numerous professional boards and committees he served on, Stu was also dedicated to the betterment of the community.

MARK S. CIAFFAGLIONE, CPA, MST is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in May, 1985, and of the University of Hartford with a Masters of Taxation Degree in January, 1997. Mark, a native of New Britain, Connecticut, joined the firm as a principal in June 2001. His thirty plus years in public accounting has provided a solid basis for his current focus in the areas of accounting and taxation for individuals and closely held businesses, with an emphasis on estate and trust planning, administration, taxation, and probate compliance. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, an active member and past director of the Estate and Business Planning Council of Hartford, Inc., a current member and past chairman of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants Trust, Estate and Gift Taxation Committee, and a director of the New Britain High School Foundation. Mark lives in Newington with his children, Olivia and Robert.

BETH I. GARDNER, CPA is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in May, 1986. A native of South Thomaston, Maine, she has been employed by Magdefrau, Renner & Ciaffaglione LLC since July 2001. Since obtaining her degree, she has worked in public accounting in the areas of accounting and taxation for individuals and closely held businesses, with an emphasis on estate and trust planning, administration, taxation, and probate compliance. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, and previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants Education Trust Fund. She volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford where she is presently serving as Chair of the Audit Committee.

THERESA L. RENNER, CPA received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, CT in 1984. Theresa became a partner in the firm of Magdefrau and Renner, LLC in 1994. Theresa has served on numerous local non-profit boards and several professional committees during her career. She is a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Theresa lives in Tolland, Connecticut and South Carolina with her husband, Art.

RACHEL H. TRINQUE, Staff Accountant received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Connecticut in 2011. Following graduation, Rachel worked as an Auditor at Ernst & Young, LLP. She has been employed by Magdefrau, Renner & Ciaffaglione LLC since November 2013. She is an associate member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. Rachel lives in Union, Connecticut with her husband, Jesse, and their daughter, Eva.

DEE L. WARDROP, CPA received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut in 1989. She started working with Stuart Magdefrau and Theresa Renner in 1989, and continued until 2000 when she took some time off to raise her family. She returned to the firm and public accounting in 2006. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. She lives in Ellington, Connecticut with her husband, Chris and three children, Rachel, Erin, and Kyle.

KENT D. ZAHNER, CPA received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut in December 1993, with a major in Accounting and a minor in Management. Kent worked in the investment division of Travelers Corp. and served as Controller of Lighting Management, Inc. prior to his start in public accounting in 1996. He was employed by Magdefrau & Renner LLC in July, 1996. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA) and serves on the Investment Committee for the CTCPA. He is the Treasurer for the Apostolic Christian Church of Ellington, CT, Inc. He lives in Ellington with his wife, Karen, and their four children, Katrina, Jeremy, Natalie and Cassidy.

MIRANDA L. KRUPA, Office Manager received a Bachlor of Science Degree in Business Management from the University of St. Joseph in 2017. She has been employed by Magdefrau, Renner & Ciaffaglione LLC since October 2006. She lives in Ellington with her husband, Adam, and their two cats, Brodie and Munson.
